¡ESSO! Afrojam Funkbeat is a band from Chicago that makes a kinetic and remarkably cohesive fusion of funk, Caribbean dance, and cumbia, charged with Afro-Latin rhythms and positively club ready. That this worldbeat, groove-heavy crew would visit The Squeezebox seems quite appropriate. We’re just hoping the little venue, which can feel more like a sweatbox, can contain the movimiento de la gente when it kicks into full swing.

Rounding out the bill is Los De Esta Noche, a local band that also has a knack for musical/cultural fusion, combining cumbia with punk, ska, and rock for a wholly unique and cathartically powerful sound. You can preview both bands online at soundcloud.com/esso-afrojam-funkbeat and losdeestanoche.bandcamp.com respectively.

Wednesday, August 30, $3, 8pm, The Squeezebox, 2806 N. St. Mary’s St., facebook.com/thesqueezebox.
