City Accepting Applications for Diego Bernal's Old Council Seat

Are you the next Diego Bernal? The city is now taking applications to fill the former District 1 councilman's seat from now through the May elections.

Bernal officially vacated the position last week as he sets his sight on the Texas Legislature. He formally launched his campaign for Mike Villarreal's House District 123 seat in the Texas House of Representatives.

Interested applicants must submit a completed application, a letter of interest, a resume and financial disclosure documents by Friday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m.

City Council will interview applicants at its Wednesday, Dec. 10 B session meeting before interviewing the three finalists and then voting at its regular Thursday meeting.

For more information on the position and the application, click here. Applicants are also encouraged to contact assistant city clerk Melinda L. Uriegas at 210-207-7253 with questions.

Bernal is facing an opponent in his quest for the Pink Dome: local marketing and public relations professional Melissa Aguillon. The two jumped at Villarreal's position after he resigned in early November to focus on his mayoral run full time. State Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, making her rumored mayoral candidacy official last week, is a strong contender the race and could keep other rumored hopefuls from throwing their hats in the ring.
