With a Grammy-award winning father in Delbert McClinton, Clay McClinton has understandably had to define himself and his music in order to escape the huge shadow cast by his dad. But, like Shooter Jennings and Hank III, sons of Waylon and Hank Jr., Clay McClinton is quickly carving out his own niche in the world of country music. He grew up learning guitar and harmonica from his father and older brother Monty, and decided to pursue music as a career at 19. Clay’s eclectic sound is born in Texas where honky tonk, Delta blues, and soulful rock meld seamlessly — he’s introduced alternative country to contemporary blues and the genres have become fast friends. Clay hits the stage as the special guest of celebrated, Texas-born guitarist and vocalist Ruben V. $10, 9pm, Sam’s Burger Joint, 330 E. Grayson, claymcclinton.com.
