According to a Facebook post on Monday, Ernest Espinoza III said he was at the Spurs game with a friend when a couple behind them began harassing them. He said the couple was being racist to him and his friend Megan Cherry, and that the couple also used a homophobic slur toward Cherry.
The man in the video can be heard calling Cherry a "faggot."
When speaking to News 4, Espinoza said the couple would not stop harassing them, so he decided to take his phone out to record them. Leading up to the incident, Espinoza said the couple was annoyed that he and Cherry would stand up to cheer for the Spurs, which is a standard practice for a basketball game. (Especially when the team is beating the defending NBA champs after a losing streak.)Saw this on fb though I’d share here, i don’t know how people can be so disrespectful. pic.twitter.com/GF8DjiKnTW

The woman in the video identified herself as Kimberly when she spoke to News 4. She said she told Espinoza and Cherry that her child couldn't see the game and that the friends were "standing up just to harass us, or to be rude."
Espinoza said the woman pushed Cherry. Kimberly denied
Espinoza's Facebook post has since been shared more than 30,000 times, meaning Kimberly and the man she was with have been getting a lot of attention, which she said has included threats.
"I don't think I deserve it, but I can take it," Kimberly told News 4. "My children have been threatened. I'm very afraid for their lives.
Cherry said she has forgivenShe said she’s afraid for her children’s lives yet her and her husband were acting that in front of their children? What if they decided to retaliate then and there for the harassment?https://t.co/M2ID67lgv3

"I'm not homophobic. I'm not a racist," Kimberly said. "I'm sorry that everything happened. I'm sorry anything was said. It shouldn't have happened. That's all I can say."
Espinoza said taking the high road was the only option for him.
"This is bigger then exposing them for what they did," he wrote on Facebook Tuesday night. "It’s about hoping that the generations to follow become equal."
