The San Antonio Underground Film Fest’s got a new handle and a new locale. Now the San Antonio Film Festival, the event will carry on for four days (June 19-22 — planning ahead here) at the Instituto Cultural de México, the interior of which fest director Adam Rocha lovingly describes as “Ikea on steroids.”

A total of 46 films will screen, 13 from local filmmakers. Rocha’s favorite is a Say Sí documentary about the 40th anniversary of HemisFair. (Fitting, since the Instituto is nestled in cozy Hemisfair Park.) He’s also delighted that Alejandra Sánchez, director of documentary Bajo Juárez, will be on-hand for a Q&A session. Critical Darling recommends you also take in SAFilm Auteur Award-winning doc Crawford. An intimate look at the tiny Texas town made known nationally when King George II purchased a ranch thereabouts, Crawford packs laughs — especially from a too-goofy-to-be-true Dubya-merch peddler — and tears.

In the nearer future, plan to attend media activist Bruce Dixon’s lecture, “The Price of Corporate Media: Can We Afford It?” at Trinity University on June 14. It’s part of a six-hour forum, so call (210) 663-4218 to get sorted. XO.
