This week’s slight box-office offerings — not that we’re, uh, knocking Meet Dave — should cause you no pangs of grief, not when you’ve got the “From Russia With Love: Russian Film Review starting up at the Instituto Cultural de México, and Josiah at Urban-15, which is discussed in detail over there.

“From Russia With Love” begins today, at 7 p.m., with the 1994 film Burnt by the Sun, and continues every Wednesday at the same time and place all month. Other featured films include The Thief, Since Otar Left, and a series of animated movies by Yuriy Norshteyn. Dr. Elena Koudinova presides.

If you’re not spending your evenings in the dark, perhaps it’s because you’re rushing to finish an experimental short film by, for, or about Latinos by this Friday, July 12, so you can enter it in NALIP-San Antonio’s CAM Film Slam (to be held at 8 p.m. on July 19 at Urban-15). There is no entry fee, but your submissions — which should be in DVD or Mini DV format — will not be returned to you.
