Critical Darling 

Disney,just pay Ebert whatever he wants. The man survived cancer. He’s out a voice and a mandible segment. I assume he’s not asking for a private Mediterranean island paved with gold bars. Even if he is, quite frankly, he and his thumb might be worth it. I stopped watching Ebert & Roeper once I realized John Mellencamp was as likely as A.O. Scott to be second digit.

Of late, the Dallas Observer’s Robert Wilonsky has signed to co-host the show with Richard Roeper for the first few months of the new season. Naturally, Critical Darling would have preferred a brilliant female co-host, but at least Rob’s a Texan.

Moving on to a television show I still watch (as should you), 30 Rock, season one, got its DVD release this week. Season two doesn’t premiere until October 4, so not only do you have plenty of time to catch up (Mom), you’ll be in on the joke next time I shout a reference like, Dammit, Johnny, you know I love my Big Beef and Cheddar! (If it isn’t funny now, just imagine the words erupting from Isabella Rossellini’s lips.)

Finally, I’d be remiss to overlook another noteworthy Texan, Owen Wilson, who was hospitalized last week after a suicide attempt. Get well soon. XO.
