After months of working toward proper zoning for a prospective permanent location on Cevallos, Slab Cinema has canceled its contract for the property. Stamped with a no alcohol sales/donations zoning at the last minute, according to Slab co-founder Angela Martinez, San Antonio’s premiere profferer of outdoor B-cinema has decided to keep shopping. Without profits from alcohol sales, “We can’t be confident in covering the mortgage,” said Martinez, who is set on building an outdoor, park-like movie-theater space of the highest caliber. She is currently exploring temporary options for the summer slate.
