Cruz Ortiz is Making a 60-foot Tower Inspired by Selena, Folk Stories on the South Side

Oh snap y'all.

Selena stuff keeps rolling in and honestly we're hoping it doesn't stop.

This time, someone designed a 60-ft Selena public art structure and did we already mention it's 60-ft?

Cruz Ortiz, who blends San Antonio pop culture and phrases in his work, drew up "Siempre Dreaming of You" from top to bottom on the tower, obviously inspired by Selena's crossover mega-hit. Just hearing the song still brings tears to our eyes to this day.

But it's not all about Selena, Ortiz’s Dream Song Tower will include folkloric images anyone who grew up with a superstitious abuelita will recognize, like ojo and the Donkey Lady (shudders).

Here's the beginnings of the "Dream Song Tower" (which will be on the corner of Zarzamora and the Interstate 35 Access Road, near Baptist Emergency Hospital) taken from Ortiz's Facebook page:

Folks living on or visiting the South Side won't be able to miss this massive beacon of Selena realness (costing roughly $360,000), which will be surrounded by landscaping and walkways.  The City will hold a dedication ceremony in January after the structure is completed.

We call first dibs on getting married here.
