Native scholar, writer, blogger, and activist, Dr. Adrienne Keene (Cherokee Nation) researches and explores the appropriation of Native cultures in popular media. Her blog, Native Appropriations, tackles topics as varied as the mass production of squash blossom necklaces, mascots, and Halloween costumes. In conjunction with our Indian Market, Keene will highlight the value of authentic Native arts and their role in affirming Native cultural identity and artistic integrity. Dr. Keene is an assistant professor of American Studies at Brown University. FREE ADMISSION. Keene's lecture is held on the eve of our 3rd annual Yanaguana Indian Arts Market.
