Daft Punk: 'Random Access Memories'

Fresh off shattering Spotify streaming records, Daft Punk return with their dance music history lesson, Random Access Memories. Rooted in the slick grooves of disco, the French duo’s latest album is a heavy hand of criticism towards modern pop music. They upgrade their sound production by weaving in seemingly countless lines of audio into each song. Though a track’s direction can tend to lose its way in favor of sonic pleasure, the album’s host of guest vocalists plays sleight of hand to make you almost instantly forget it. “Instant Crush,” featuring Julian Casablancas, is the song the Strokes wish they could have written for Comedown Machine. Daft Punk defies the idea that a band can only produce its best material early in their career. Metallic voices, green lasers, smoke machines and laps around the roller rink hail one of the most important albums of the year.
