"Distinguished Lecture: Tina Barney: The Power of the Narrative"

When: Thu., Oct. 20, 6:30-7:30 p.m. 2016
Price: $5-$20
Renowned for large photographs of families within domestic spaces, Tina Barney’s work combines opulent settings with an intimate view of family and relationships. Barney discusses the nature of narrative in her work, including four photos on view in Telling Tales: Contemporary Narrative Photography. With references to 19th-century portraiture, Barney’s photographs chronicle daily activities of family and friends in affluent areas of New York and Rhode Island. Her tableaux capture psychological undercurrents of idealized interiors and the people who live within them. Barney studied photography at the Sun Valley Center for Arts and Humanities in Idaho, and monographs include Tina Barney: Theatre of Manners, The Europeans, and Players.
