Drag Me to Fame

A blast from the past and bright new star join fierce forces for the May finals of Drag Me to Fame, a weekly talent night in which aspiring local drag performers compete to become a Rey Lopez Entertainment (RLE) Showgirl. Hosted by snaggle-toothed camp queen Tencha La Jefa and fellow Current covergirl Alayna Marquez, the high-stakes evening showcases the talents of rising drag starlets along with special guests Jade Sotomayor, who finished in sixth place on the inaugural season of RuPaul’s Drag Race back in 2009, and Pangina Heals, hostess of the inaugural season of Drag Race Thailand. A Chicago-based dancer and makeup artist, Sotomayor is best remembered for her lip-sync of the Britney Spears hit “I’m a Slave 4 U,” which came complete with the ultimate fashion accessory: an albino python. A half-Thai, half-Taiwanese performer who studied fine art at UCLA and champions the vogue-esque dance genre of “waacking,” Bangkok-based Heals (pictured) recently told the online LGBT entertainment source NewNowNext that she’s “bringing her unique cross-cultural perspective” to Drag Race Thailand, which can be streamed on this side of the pond via YouTube.

Chicken-on-a-Stick
Fiesta favorite chicken-on-a-stick is basically the supreme food booth snack from all of Fiesta. San Antonians look forward to eating it all year, and usually commemorate their first chicken-on-a-stick of the season with a selfie. It’s inspired chicken-on-a-stick necklaces, earrings, stickers and more from local designers, and has appeared on menus across SA so folks can get their fix. Thank goodness for that.
