Wonderlands of the Americas Mall
Wonderland Mall of Americas has two majorly nerdy events this weekend for San Antonio. San Japan and Nine Tails will host Mini-Mini-Con, an arts expo showcasing the best in Japanese pop culture. At the same time, NDG Productions will host SciFest, a festival dedicated to science fiction pop culture. Sci-fi and anime fans unite!
Scifest promises to have a slew of shows and activities during their two-day event. There will be comic artists, vendors, karaoke, a fashion show, and cosplayers. San Antonio College Asian Pop Society, a dance troupe dedicated to emulating popular Japanese pop star dance routines, are slotted to perform. Just about every Star Wars society in San Antonio will make an appearance. Actors Billy Blair (Sin City: A Dame to Kill for) and Osvaldo Fernandez (GI Joe: Retaliation) will be there to meet fans, too. All Scifest events will take place on the ground floor of the mall.
Starting at 4 p.m., Mini-Mini Con will bring out the video games and live music. Gamers and non-gamers alike can register to compete in video game tournament hosted by Game Over Video Games. People curious about Japanese fighting games can get their fill, as RikRic Otaku Café will have original arcade cabinets to play. Just outside, Beni Hito, Chalkboards, Star Fighter Dreams, and Richie Branson will play music throughout the afternoon. All of Mini-Mini Con's vendors, local artists, and cosplay will be set up on the second floor of the mall.
With school officially out for summer, Wonderland Mall of Americas is giving sci-fi and anime nerds a good reason to stay indoors with these two events. Best part? Both are free and open to the public.
