Following a month-long hiatus, Tucker's is reopening Wednesday under new operators. Last month, Andrew Lake and Nathan Azar took over the East Side institution, promising to make changes.
While Lake and Azar say they're committed to upholding the restaurant's traditions, Tucker's will sport a new food and cocktail menu when it reopens at 4 p.m. today. The food items were developed by incoming chefs Chris Durkin and Phil Carden, graduates of the Culinary Institute of America-San Antonio. New additions include steam buns stuffed with pulled pork, fried shrimp or eggplant.
Fans also will be able to enjoy renovations to the space plus a new Sunday brunch menu. Don't worry, though, you'll be able to find bar favorites like wings, fried chicken and a house burger. As for the bar, Tucker's will offer eight featured cocktails priced $10 or less, in addition to eight wine varieties and more than 20 beers.
Though changes are coming to Tucker's, which opened in 1948, the new team says it will preserve the spot as an institution while adding more food events and programming, including block parties.
"We want to keep the experience as close as possible to preserve legacy of that site," Lake previously told the Current.
