Erotique

Uploaded by Sexology Institute
Call it a reaction to the overplayed, “spooktacular” theatrics of Halloween and all the allegedly “sexy” costumes it entails (“I’m a mouse, duh!”) but the fiercely inclusive, body-positive Pastie Pops are shelving their seasonal All Hallow’s Tease to unveil Erotique — an intimate experience that combines diverse performances and unprecedented interaction with troupe members. “This is not a typical show for us,” Pastie Pops ringleader Jasper St. James told the Current. “In between numbers and during intermission there will be fetish performances … wax dripping, mixing and mingling — like a small, intimate fetish ball.” But as fans know, the Pops never take themselves too seriously, meaning Erotique will remain decidedly approachable with liberal doses of humor. In addition to classic burlesque and fetish performances by St. James (the “big and tall that bares it all”), “living doll” Mary Annette, contemporary tease Elle Du Jour, Vixy Van Hellen (the “bare bottom of Bexar County”) and drag king Mustang Ryder, the revealing evening showcases the talents of two Austinites: Shi Feticcio (an “enigma” with a minimal style) and Black Widow Burlesque member Zaftigg Von BonBon (a self-described “queen of abbreviated clothing” who’s got “the mind of a pimp in a whore’s body”). And while this motley crew isn’t ignoring Halloween altogether (St. James confirmed costumes, “animal play,” tarot card readings and seasonal numbers like “I Put a Spell on You”), Erotique’s more provocative features arrive in the form of a spanking booth and opportunities for attendees to become “human ottomans” for their favorite performers during breaks. There’s even cake — which St. James plans to sit on. Take it from him: “It gets messy.”

Theory Coffee
    2347 Nacogdoches Road, (210) 570-4407, theorycoffeeco.com
Owned by a man with beard enough for two, Mark Vollmer’s coffee trailer offers quality coffee and pastries to cappuccino-craving commuters at 410 and Nacogdoches. In the time since it’s opened, the area surrounding this coffee trailer has transformed into a hub of food vendors with varied seating options, some natural greenery and occasional live music. Grab an iced latte (there’s house-made almond milk for vegans, too) and admire one of the classic muscle cars that frequently stop by.
