Flavor File: Amaya’s Comeback Brunch, Two New Markets and A Crafty Beer

  • Facebook/Amaya's Cocina

After closing their doors for several weeks, the crew behind Amaya’s Cocina (1502 E. Commerce St., 210-265-5449) is hosting Sunday brunch on June 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The locally owned East Side eatery known for its awesome tortillas, tasty lunches and monthly brunches, was forced to close down the shop for much-needed plumbing repairs. The menu for this Sunday's feast will feature sandia 101 (watermelon and radishes tossed in lime and topped with queso fresco), peaches and cream (toasted baguette with a smear of cream cheese and Texas peaches), waffles rancheros (maple waffles smothered in ranchero salsa with bacon and a fried egg) and East Side barbacoa (Angus beef cheek, with plum pico de gallo and fresh corn tortillas). Bottomless mimosas will be available by donation, and DJ Electric Messiah will be spinning tunes. The brunch will serve as a warm up in advance of a July grand reopening, and continue every Sunday.

On Wednesday, June 8, get a small taste of how the brews are made at Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery (136 E. Grayson St., Suite 120, 210-455-5701) during their Summer Beer Talk Series. Brewer Les Locke will talk about Southerleigh’s beers of the month, what foods to pair them with and share a few sips. The series kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and will continue July 13 and August 10.
