Last week's San Antonio Cocktail Conference kicked off with three of our finest female bartenders heading north to represent San Antonio in Speed Rack Dallas. Previous Texan champ Elisabeth Forsythe, fellow Barbaro bartender Janessa Flowers and The Esquire Tavern's Zulcoralis Rodriguez competed alongside 17 of the state's most agile bartendresses with Rodriguez staking claim to the title of Miss Speed Rack Texas after beating Kristy Drapiza of Arlington's The Ranch at Las Colinas in the final round. The competition, which helps raise awareness and money for breast cancer research, will gather the nation's finalists for nationals in New York on June 7. Rodriguez, 28, has been part of the staff at The Esquire for two years.
Chef Jason Dady likes keeping busy. He closed the doors on Umai Mi to make way for Tre Enoteca, a Tuscan-style ristorante that will feature house-made extruded pasta entrees, a mozzarella bar, wood-fired pizzas and a bar program. The Jason Dady Restaurant Group also announced the opening of The Shuck Shack at 520 East Grayson. The seafood-focused eatery will carry fish and chips, clam chowder, lobster rolls and chingos of oysters, available baked or on the half-shell. Diners can expect to dig in to both eateries sometime this spring.
