A party at Liberty Bar? Watch this space.
On July 14, Liberty Bar, 325 E. Josephine, will have been in business for 20 years. Though he did tell us that the listing Victorian started in 1890 as the Liberty Schooner, owner Dwight Hobart was very mysterious about plans to observe the anniversary.
Twenty years is kind of a big deal. How are you going to celebrate?
Throw out the current president and put in a new one. Just kidding. I don't think we'll do anything on wheels; I take a dim view of excessive celebration.
So, no party?
During that week we'll be having a pretty good time. It's the same day as Bastille Day. That's when they released the prisoners from the Bastille. Of course, they don't do that anymore, they just leave them in there to rot.
Does the Liberty Bar have any prisoners to release?
Prisoners of good taste, those who are bound by their own effete and refined sense of aesthetic discrimination.
OK so, seriously, what can people expect if they stop by on July 14?

You can always take home the memory. Anything could happen. I don't think we are going to do anything that is too bizarre, but there will be some kind of event.
Food and boxed-fan drive
KSYM 90.1 FM will host its 5th annual Koolemov' and Feedum Fest Food and Boxed Fan Drive at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, at Sam's Burger Joint, 330 E. Grayson. This year's event benefits Inner City Development, which works within the community to help meet the emergency needs of families in crisis and to provide recreational and educational opportunities and activities for children and teens. Performances by the McKay Brothers, Yoshimoto, The Bloody Tears, The Lemurs, and The Mechanical Walking Robot Boy. $5 or five cans of food admit one person; a boxed fan will admit five people.
