Turkish Delight
Turquoise Turkish Grill, 11220 Perrin Beitel, has opened a Turkish market next to the restaurant. The new market sells an array of imported Turkish foods: spices, coffee, canned goods — stuffed grape leaves and cabbage, pickled peppers, and marinated beans — cheeses, olives, nuts, and sweets, including Turkish delight and cookies. The shop also carries the necessary hardware for food preparation, such as long-handled Turkish coffee pots. For more information, call 946-3070.



Ghosts of Christmas past
From November 17-January 1, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, celebrates the spirit of the holidays with That’s Entertaining! at Bayou Bend, the former residence of Ima Hogg. The annual Yuletide celebration includes seasonal plantings of poinsettas and pansies along the historic site’s 14-acre gardens and, inside the home, eight detailed scenes of holiday entertaining, from a 1740s tea with Abigaill Levy Franks and her husband, Jacob, as they exchange gifts with their son in London to Judge Samuel Sewall of Boston celebrating the birth of his 14th child, complete with the babe in wicker cradle and all the accessories of a privileged 18th-century child. Wherefore Espuma?
Fans of Espuma Café, formerly housed in a converted Victorian on South Alamo Street in Southtown, will be relieved to hear that it has not closed, but has simply moved to new and bigger digs at 1127 S. St. Mary’s Street. The café’s hours are 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday, and 8 a.m.-4p.m. Sunday.
