Apparently, Gary Gulman is stand-up comedy’s best kept secret. The Boston native and current New Yorker was lauded by the Village Voice in the same breath as Louis C.K. and Bill Burr as the “next giant ex-Bostonian comic to break huge.” In 2014, the New York Times described him as a “vivid storyteller” and said he was “finally being recognized as one of the country’s strongest comedians.” Since then, Gulman, who is gearing up for his Must Be Nice! tour later this year, has continued to perform on talk shows like Conan and Late Night with Seth Meyers. During his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last year, Gulman joked about the hardships of doing laundry, the difference between “waking up” and “getting up” in the morning and his unique way of eating a pint of ice cream (“Fork prints in ice cream are evidence of a life in chaos”). His latest comedy special, 2016’s It’s About Time, is currently available on Netflix. Earlier this year, Gulman played a fictional version of himself on comedian Pete Holmes’ HBO series Crashing.
