This venerable Westside engine of Xicano/Latino/indigenous art, film, theater and community celebrates its 30th birthday this year. GCAC has gone through some organizational conflicts, but the promising reign of new Director Patty Ortiz has just begun, and while holiday craft fair Hecho a Mano, homegrown film fête CineFestival and the Tejano Conjunto Music Festival are perennial faves, a grandly comtemporary re-imagining of Galeria Tonantzin, a multidisciplinary performance arts night called “Lupe’s Art Blend,” and a new media arts program bespeak a future so bright, we gotta wear gafas.
