Hear Third Root's New Single, "Revolutionary Theme Music"

As part of an upcoming collaborative EP between Third Root (Easy Lee from Mojoe and Marco Cervantes/Mexican StepGrandfather) and Greg G (who produced “Call Me Black” on Third Root’s Stand for Something album), the black/brown hip-hop duo released their latest single, “Revolutionary Theme Music” (featuring Big Rube from Atlanta's Dungeon Family), also the name of the EP.

“The response from [“Call Me Black”] was so great that we approached [Greg G] with the idea of crafting five songs tailor made for Third Root's sound, image, and message,” Easy Lee told the Current. “He agreed and we've been bouncing ideas back and forth for the past six months or so.”

Greg handed Third Root a CD full of beats at the Mind Elevation mixtape release party in January, with the first track being the sketch for the single. A few days later, they created more beats at Greg G’s studio.

“[Greg] looked at us and said, ‘This sounds like revolutionary theme music,'" Easy Lee said. “We all looked at each other like the heavens had opened up, because we knew that was the mission statement for this EP. The EP will provide the theme music, a soundtrack, a motivational call to duty for every teacher in the classroom, soldier in the Middle East, activist marching for human rights, and every brave soul speaking up for what's just and fair. It will also be a thank you letter to every artist that is not afraid to be radical in their approach to music, art, and community.”

According to Easy Lee, “the music is coming along” and final vocals will be laid out in August possibly followed by a new single before the tentative September or October release.

“Revolutionary Theme Music” was written by Easy Lee, MexStep and Big Rube, recorded by Ali Friedrich in San Antonio, mixed by Greg G and mastered by Brad White at 2High Studios in Atlanta. The single’s art is by Francisco Cortés.
