"Heavy Metal Capital of the World"

UTSA Libraries Special Collections
Turns out San Antonians aren’t the only ones to recognize that our city once reigned as a premier tour stop for nearly every leather-and-studs-wearing metal band. Penn State Historian Gregory Peek will preside over a panel discussing the ’70s-’80s era when KISS-FM and concert promoter Stone City Attractions helped break bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Rush in South Texas long before they could headline anywhere else. A temporary exhibit from the South Texas Museum of Pop Culture will accompany the panel, and guests are encouraged to wear concert shirts from the era. And did we mention it’s even an official Tricentennial event? Horns up!
