Speed Rack Nationals is getting a big dose of San Antonio on May 8 as two of the city's fastest bartenders head to Chicago to compete in the female-only bartending competition.

Speed Rack is an all-female showdown that pits cocktail queens from across the country against each other in a tournament-style pour-off. A batch of close to 20 bartenders is whittled down to eight and then broken down into pairs that go head-to-head in precise and speedy cocktail-making. Judges call out names of classic cocktails for the competitors to make in as little time as possible and time is added to their final score. The bartender with the final shortest time wins. Proceeds from events and competitions benefit breast cancer research.

Vanessa Vara, general manager at Rumble, earned the title of Miss Speed Rack Southwest this past February in Phoenix, and Natalie Ledesma (Paramour) was voted into Nationals as Speed Rack Southwest Wildcard.

The pair have been practicing their pouring skills across the city and your two last chances to support will go down Sunday, April 29 at Blue Box from 2 to 5 p.m. and Monday, April 30 at Rosella at the Rand from 7 to 10 p.m.

During practice rounds, bar-goers can take in the precision and speed with which this duo bartends. Attendees can score four classic cocktails (from the list of classics Speed Rack uses during rounds) for $20, and they get a first-hand look at how fast Vara and Ledesma are.
