Here's How Much Property Values Have Jumped Across Bexar County

By now, you've gotten what was likely the bad news about the higher property value on your home, which means a larger tax bill this year.

Here's the bigger picture of what's happening across Bexar County, as reported by the Bexar Appraisal District:

  • The value of residential properties has risen 8.8 percent across the board
  •  Commercial property values have climbed between 11 percent and 12 percent on average
  • Multifamily properties have exploded in value, up 22 percent on average.
Chief Appraiser Michael Amezquita said San Antonio's housing market has reached the point where potential homebuyers are turning to older, less well-to-do neighborhoods because that's where they can find increasingly scarce affordable houses. "That's happening right now in Harlandale," he said.

That means higher property values and higher taxes in those communities because home sales on your street affect how much the appraisal district says your house is worth.

The deadline for protesting your 2018 property value is May 15. Click here for more information on how to appeal online.
