ICYMI, Alyssa Milano Came to San Antonio to Bring Attention to Family Separation Alongside RAICES

Alyssa Milano spent some time in San Antonio earlier this week to bring attention to migrants seeking asylum.

The actress and activist is plenty vocal about human rights issues, especially immigration, on Twitter, but she also put herself to work during her Texas trip. She joined RAICES, the locally-based immigrant and refugee legal services provider, in an effort to help people "better understand the plight of asylum seekers at the border." RAICES gained national attention this year in its fight against the Trump administration's zero tolerance policy.

Posting Twitter updates throughout the week, Milano visited San Antonio's downtown Greyhound bus station, noting that's where ICE drops off asylum seekers once they're released from detention centers. RAICES is often on-site, helping immigrants get to their destination and providing resources.
The actress also visited detention centers in Karnes and Tornillo, the latter site a tent city housing migrant children separated from their parents. Stay on top of San Antonio news and views. Sign up for our Weekly Headlines Newsletter.
