Homicide detectives are working to answer questions about a man's death after his body was discovered in Woodlawn Lake.

While walking around the West Side lake on Sunday afternoon, a woman spotted a body near a dam. The woman called police, who then requested backup from local firefighters to use a boat to pull the man out of the water.

The man has not been identified at this time, but authorities have described him as being Latino and in his 50s. Police are unsure about how long his body was in the water.

"Woodlawn Lake is not deep. I have seen it before when it has been drained. You can stand up out there," said Carlos Ortiz, a spokesman for the police department, told KSAT. "We are just going to have to wait to see what the investigation reveals."

He said authorities are investigating whether the incident was "an apparent sudden death." Ortiz told the Express-News that the man's body didn't have any apparent signs of trauma, but that there are "still many unknowns" about the man's death. An autopsy will be performed to determine a cause of death.
