Jenn Alva (Girl In A Coma) on The Smiths box set

"You've Got Everything Now." You would if a complete box set of every Smiths album is your ultimate ambition. Rhino Records recently released The Smiths Complete Box Set with all four studio albums, the sole live album, and three compilations remastered by Johnny Marr and engineered by Frank Arkwright. Let's face it: these songs have been released and repackaged many times before, and a true Smiths fan already owns everything released anyway. Still, Johnny Marr has a great ear and, with plenty of time to listen to his works of art, why not clean them up in his own way? Would Morrissey agree? Who knows? Smiths fans? We'll see. I have to admit, the digitally remastered versions of this set sound as if you are listening in High Definition with all the classic moves pulled out of the remastering trunk. It cleaned up very nicely. This Smiths fanatic would strongly suggest owning the set — if you have the money. There are different levels to choose from. The first being Complete (Digital) at $39.99. (Why anyone would order a collectors box set digitally beats me.) Next up, Complete (CD Box Set) at $68.99. Then the vinyl lover's Complete (Vinyl Box Set) at $249.98 (with poster. Maybe that's why it's so expensive?) And finally, Complete (Deluxe Box Set), a limited package including all eight albums on CD and vinyl, accompanied by all 25 of the Smiths' singles on 7" vinyl, a poster, expanded liner notes, and the Complete Picture DVD of the band's videos. Boy oh boy, this would make a fun infomercial. All this could be yours for only four easy payments of $125. Whining aside, I want it. Typical Smiths fan.
