La Tamalada

Humorously illustrated by Alicia Mena’s beloved comedy Las Nuevas Tamaleras (playing at the Guadalupe Theater through December 11), spreading masa and filling on corn husks, wrapping them up snugly and steaming them to perfection is not as easy as it might look. For those who haven’t been lucky enough to learn the art of making tamales amid family and friends at yuletide tamaladas, the Witte once again steps in to fill in the blanks with a hands-on workshop. Facilitated by seasoned tamal expert Gloria Solis and presented in conjunction with the museum’s kid-friendly Family Days programming, La Tamalada goes beyond the promise of technical know-how as it offers each guest “a half-dozen bean tamales to enjoy for lunch or take home.”
