Lecture: Armenia, A Vision of the Christian East

When: Thu., Oct. 4, 6:30-7:30 p.m. 2018
Price: $20
With their homeland at the foot of Mt. Ararat, Armenians converted to Christianity in the fourth century, decades before the Roman/Byzantine Empire officially became a Christian state. Situated between West and East, the Armenians’ strong association with their Christian Faith helped them maintain a national identity as their lands were often invaded by those of other religions and they spread across the world as significant figures on international trade routes. Helen C. Evans, Ph.D., Mary and Michael Jaharis Curator for Byzantine Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art will discuss the significance of Armenian art as seen in her exhibition Armenia.
