San Antonio filmmaker Fidel Ruiz-Healy, who was named earlier this month as the 2016 recipient of the San Antonio Film Commission matching grant in the amount of $25,000, has received some more exciting news.

Before earning the grant, which he will use for the production of his upcoming feature film Rio Grande City, Ruiz-Healy had already completed his first feature film titled The Homefront.

Co-directed and co-written by Ruiz-Healy and Tyler Walker, the narrative was recently accepted into its first film festival, Dances with Films, in Los Angeles where it will screen next month. The film made its world premiere in 2014 in Poland where in won a post-production grant from the country’s film commission.

The Homefront follows the lives of a dysfunctional nuclear family still living at home a decade after the U.S. has been invaded by an unspecified enemy.

The film has been submitted into a number of other film festivals around the world. Ruiz-Healy hopes to get accepted by more in the coming months and take the film on a strong festival run.

"The Homefront is a film that we handmade in San Antonio over a winter break in college,” said Ruiz-Healy. “We basically shot it in our backyard with five of our friends and some great actors we were lucky enough to find in the area. So, having it screen in front of a few hundred people at the Chinese Theater in L.A., after it only existed for our tiny team for so long, feels a little surreal.”

Visit The Homefront website here for more information on the film, including upcoming screenings.
