A large crowd gathered on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles Tuesday evening for the unveiling of a new wax figure at Madame Tussauds to honor the legendary queen of Tejano and crossover icon, Selena.

The event coincided with the 21st anniversary of Selena's fifth and final studio album, Dreaming of You, a record she would sadly not live long enough to see released. According to some accounts, fans lined up early Tuesday morning to secure their spot at the unveiling. With her addition to Madame Tussauds, Selena will be immortalized alongside other major stars like Madonna and Michael Jackson.

The wax figure itself was a long time in the making. Selena's fans clamored for it, at one point sparking a Change.org petition calling for the museum to add her to its collection that garnered more than 10,000 signatures. According to ABC, Madame Tussauds eventually sent a team of artists and sculptors to the Selena Museum in Corpus Christi and worked with Selena's family to make sure everything looked right, from her pose and expression all the way down to the hairstyle, makeup and wardrobe.

The figure is supposed to mimic Selena's signature look from concert held at the Memorial Coliseum in Corpus Christi on February 3, 1993.
