Manhattan Short Film Festival

There might be 1,600 miles between the New York City borough of Manhattan and San Antonio, but both metropolises can share in a cinematic experience simultaneously when film lovers from around the world unite for the 2017 Manhattan Short Film Festival September 29-30 and October 6-7. This year, the festival received a record-breaking 1,615 short film entries from 75 countries. As always, attendees from 250 venues on six continents (approximately 100,000 movie watchers) will judge the shorts and vote on their favorite film and performance. Winners will be announced October 9. In 2015, a short animated film from Chile called Bear Story (dir. Gabriel Osorio Vargas), which was a finalist for MSSF, ended up winning the Academy Award for Best Short Film – Animation the following year. Finalists of the 2017 festival are Do No Harm (dir. Roseanne Liang), Behind (dir. Ángel Gómez Hernández), Fickle Bickle (dir. Stephen Ward), Hope Dies Last (dir. Ben Price), Perfect Day (dir. Ignacio Redondo), Just Go! (dir. Pavel Gumennikov), Mare Nostrum (dirs. Rana Kazkaz and Anas Khalaf), Viola, Franca (dir. Marta Savina), In a Nutshell (dir. Fabio Friedli) and 8 Minutes (dirs. Giorgi Gogichaishvili and Davit Abramishvili).
