According to a memo obtained by the Current dated Sept 19 and addressed to council members and staff, Mayor Ivy Taylor, who has said she won’t be seeking the mayoral seat in the spring 2015 elections, is planning “open office hours” at libraries in every district (except District 2, her former seat) between October and April. The tour is billed in the memo as “simply an opportunity for citizens to meet her and discuss anything they desire.” But we wonder if she might be eyeing citywide voters?

Former District 8 Councilman Reed Williams, a retired oil executive who serves on the San Antonio Water System board of trustees, spent four years working with Taylor. He isn’t reading anything into Taylor’s memo.

“That’s just Ivy,” he told the Current. “For her, it’s a way to be more collaborative with her colleagues and to get more into understanding their issues through their individual districts.”

Rebeca CF Baquero, with Taylor’s office, said the events aren’t political and are simply similar to meetings she used to host as a council member.

“It’s just for the citizens of the San Antonio community to be able to have easy access to her and be able to discuss whatever they want to discuss,” Baquero said.
