Mean Jolene, Whatever?, Sundias
Austin’s Mean Jolene play The Sundays-style dream pop with a little punk octane in the tank. Songs on the band’s most recent record, Try Harder, dance along the tough-and-tender continuum both musically and lyrically. Local quartet Whatever? play a charmingly shambolic style of unreconstructed rock ’n’ roll, while Sundias pursue wah-heavy, fuzz-bass-led jams under the intriguing — and apt! — genre moniker of “surf doom.”
