Metal Goes ... Country? DevilDriver Is Releasing a Cover Album of Outlaw Country Hits

  • Facebook, DevilDriver

In your metal news today, groovy, melodic-metal outfit DevilDriver have announced they’re releasing a cover album full of outlaw country songs – which actually sounds fucking awesome.

Now, metal and punk, or metal and even pop have crossed over in the past (see the Punk Goes Pop series, which features bands like metalcore kings August Burns Red covering Britney Spears’ "Baby One More Time")

But the fact that this metal group would be undertaking some outlaw country grabbed our attention, because, after all this is Texas, and with how deep San Antonio’s metal roots run, this is right up our alley.

The album, entitled Outlaws 'Til the End will feature Willie Nelson's "Whiskey River," Johnny Paycheck's "I'm the Only Hell (Mama Ever Raised)," Johnny Cash's "The Man Comes Around," and Hank 3 performing his own song "Country Heroes," which he first released on Straight to Hell in 2006.

"Taking on 'Country Heroes' is something I've wanted to do for almost 10 years now, and to redo, rethink, and reimagine this with Hank himself was what this was all about. He sounds different than anyone has ever heard him sound, and it's a sound he wants people to know he can do," said vocalist Dez Fafara in a press release about the album.

DevilDriver releases Outlaws 'Til the End on July 6th via Napalm Records and is available now for preorder. Here's the full tracklist for the album:
