The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) is investigating a potential foodborne illness cluster following numerous, independent complaints of foodborne illness reported by individuals who have dined at Pasha’s Mediterranean Grill on Wurzbach Road during the past Labor Day weekend, according to a press release.

The restaurant first opened in 2008 and has been a favorite in reader polls across the city since then. We recently profiled Pasha's growth in our food section.

The release goes on to say that "more than 60 individuals reported foodborne illness symptoms after eating at this food establishment" as of September 5.

Symptoms of foodborne diseases include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. However, symptoms may differ among the different types of foodborne diseases. Health officials encourage anyone who recently ate at the restaurant and is experiencing symptoms to seek medical attention.

The restaurant is cooperating fully in the investigation and Metro Health staff is working with the restaurant to ensure all precautions are being taken to prevent any further illnesses.

Per Bill Deiri, one of the owners of Pasha, shared the following statement.

"We always take every precaution to ensure our food is prepped, stored and contained properly. We are investigating the matter and complying with all necessary officials to get to the bottom of this. In the 10 years we have been in business, we have never had anything like this happen and are incredibly committed to making sure it never does again. The reported illnesses were all isolated to the location at 9339 Wurzbach Rd and we have proactively been in touch with the health department and are continuing to work with them to identify what happened and how to do better on these situations."
