Ming's Thing Is Opening a Noodle Bar

Ming's Thing, the pan-Asian purveyor of all things delicious at the Pearl Farmers Market, is opening a noodle bar just a few steps away from its commercial kitchen. 

First launched in early 2012 at the Quarry Ranchers & Farmers Market (RIP), Ming's Thing is a market staple because of its signature sloppy joe steamed buns, spicy noodle dishes and recently added, Hong Kong waffles. They also serve lunch Wednesday through Friday and prepare all catering orders inside a wee box car found at The Yard on McCullough. 



The noodle bar, still tentatively unnamed, will feature more of chef-owner Ming Qian's favorite Chinese snacks inside a tiny space. The restaurant will be outfitted with bar seating, designed by French and Michigan, inside and outside on the patio to accommodate 24-30 diners. Qian will serve some market mainstays while adding more noodles (rice and sweet potato were mentioned along with a spicy broth, a coconut Thai base and a plain base for the spice-averse set). She also mentioned Chinese tapas such as pig ears and century eggs and a steamed bun banh mi are also in the works. The eatery will open for lunch and dinner, and will serve beer and wine. 

Qian was hesitant to give a date for opening, but said she's hoping for a mid-October launch.
