Moda Mia: Fashion That's Classy, Fresh and Frugal

There is something magical happening at Moda Mia Fashion, and it’s about time we talk about it. There is something about the perfectly manicured racks stacked with selfie-worthy frocks that call our names. Something about hand-beaded headpieces and the smell of freshly printed tags hanging off a glitzy coral-printed dress ready to be worn by a mademoiselle willing to dance like everybody’s watching.

Located at 10003 NW Military Highway, Moda Mia Fashion is a boutique that opened its doors in 2006 by a woman with a clear vision: to create an environment where women could feel empowered through fashion. Owner, wife, mother, and fashion extraordinaire, Glenda Alvarez believes her love of fashion, coupled with exceptional customer service, is key in helping her patrons feel a sense of renewal and self-esteem. “I want women to come here and feel good, “ says Alvarez, a devout Christian, who hails from a dynasty of prosperous impresarios.

And, why would we not feel good when the median price is $45? I almost died and went to Vogue headquarters (aka heaven) when I picked up a pair of silky, blue shorts and a matching top, realizing I could score these frocks for less than $100. Not to mention when I wrapped myself in a fantastical, floral romper for $56, my self-esteem meter shot straight through the roof. I had to keep the dramatics to a minimum when I spotted an impossible-to-find pair of Umgee shorts (on the model) that have a reputation for selling out in less than three days. After realizing they were my size, and a cool $35, I was left to strategize on getting into her shorts as quickly and quietly as I could. Literally!

My takeaway is that Moda Mia Fashion is for the woman who wants to look classy and fresh while still be frugal. Moda Mia offers everything from shoes, clothing, accessories, specialty items, like hand-beaded accouterments, and everything in between to help a woman look and feel like a lady. As far as acting like a lady, well that’s a whole other topic of discussion.
