Nail biter
Nine Inch Nails' October 16 show at SBC Center comes only nine days after the live debut of the group's temporary drummer Alex Carapetis, an Australian journeyman with a wide range of touring experience. Carapetis was brought in after NIN drummer Jerome Dillon encountered persistent problems with an undisclosed heart ailment. After playing an October 1 show in Los Angeles, Dillon dropped off the tour and was briefly replaced by Josh Freese, veteran of A Perfect Circle and Paul Westerberg's 1993 touring band.

Local rock experimentalists Animals of the Bible will headline what should be an agreeably anarchic show at Atomix (1902 McCullough) on Wednesday, October 19. Animals will be joined by DMBQ, a pioneering underground-rock quartet from Tokyo, Japan, and Fatal Flying Guilloteens, a Houston group celebrated for its sonic brutality. ...

One of the more intimate live-music experiences this week will come from Austin singer-songwriter Sara Hickman, who'll perform at the 1st Unitarian Universalist Church (7150 IH-10 West) on October 15. Over a two-decade career, Hickman has gradually expanded her creative outlets, and currently juggles gigs as a child entertainer, adult-oriented songwriter, and inspirational speaker. Her San Antonio performance begins at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $15. Call 344-4695 for more info.
