Let’s be honest. There’s so much live music happening from week to week in the Alamo City that if you haven't found a show you want to check out, you either haven’t discovered the “shows to see this week” column of our music section, orrrrr you’re just a sado-masochist weirdo who loathes opportunities to experience joy (get well soon).

Offering yet another means to experience live music here in the city is the arrival of Downtown Local Sounds, a new concert series that will be held at the Arneson River theater, the location for one of the stages for Maverick Music Festival as well as a the home for Saturday’s psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll celebration, Psych del Rio.

“San Antonio loves their music and I love San Antonio” series organizer Noah Peterson told the Current, who said he wanted to start a series that could be free, family friendly and accessible to anyone while featuring local music that “represents the spirit and sound of our town.” There also will also be an assortment of food and drink vendors at the venue.

The lineup for this October’s showcase includes the alt-Americana sounds of West Kings Highway, blues rockers The Ghost Tracks and the illustrious and soulful Josh Glenn Experiment, whose layered and looping acoustic guitar strums, percussive guitar taps, and clever riffing have made him a favorite in the regional indie folk community.

With a second showcase in November already in the works, Peterson says he’s hopeful for Downtown Local Sounds to continue indefinitely.
