North St. Mary's Venue White Rabbit to be Sold

A signature marquee on the North St. Mary's strip, the White Rabbit is currently in talks to be sold. The current owners, the Sciaraffa family, intend to sell the 1,484 capacity venue to restaurant owner Chad Carey, whose real estate group owns and operates Barbaro, The Monterey and Hot Joy (a recent addition to Bon Appetit's Hot 10 Best New Restaurants list).

According to the San Antonio Express-News, White Rabbit owner Rick Sciaraffa confirmed the sale on Thursday, August 28. However, on the White Rabbit's Facebook page, an August 28 post states "Just wanted say that although there has been "talk" of The White Rabbit being sold, it is just "TALK". There is conversation being had on selling the dirt, but it would not affect the business."

In 2014, the White Rabbit has hosted artists including Sleigh Bells, Future, Deafheaven and ScHoolboy Q, consistent with their booking policy of indie, rap and metal. Owned by the Sciaraffa family since 1996, the White Rabbit is one of the few medium-sized venues in SA booking emerging touring bands on a successful basis, wrapping its corner of the St. Mary's strip with concertgoers on big nights.
