Palo Alto College presents Stolen Education: Film Screening and Filmmaker Q&A
When: Tue., Sept. 26, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. 2017
Palo Alto College presents Stolen Education, a documentary about the untold story of Mexican-American school children in 1950s Driscoll, Texas who experienced racial discrimination in the public school system with many children being held in first grade for several years. Eight of these young students testified in a federal court case in 1956 to end the discriminatory practice, one of the first post-Brown desegregation court cases to be litigated. The film documents not only an important moment in Mexican American history, but also provides important context to understand our current educational system’s enduring legacy of segregation, discrimination, and racism.
