Although his stage performances have never been very politically charged over the course of his 30-year career, stand-up comedian Paul Rodriguez, 61, raised some eyebrows this past summer during an interview with CNN’s Don Lemon where he stated undocumented immigrant children crossing into the U.S. need to be sent back to their home country. “Let’s say we accept these children, we let them stay here in America, we give them good homes, what is this going to say to everybody else? Are we prepared to be overwhelmed?” Since then, Rodriguez, who was born in Mazatlán, Mexico and later migrated with his family to California, has voiced his support for president-elect Donald Trump and his pro-wall stance. That doesn’t mean, however, that the conservative-leaning, fedora-wearing comedian isn’t using Trump to get some laughs. After the election, he called the billionaire “Forrest Trump” (“I ain’t a smart man, but I know how to build a wall”). Aside from his comedy, Rodriguez spends most of his time wondering how his professional skateboarder son Paul Rodriguez Jr. is now more Googlable than he is.
