The hybrid rideshare and personal delivery company Get Me is hosting driver "onboarding events" during the next two weeks to prepare for its January 14 launch.

The company is looking for drivers, who will be called Go-Getters and the sign up process is going on right now.

San Antonio will be the first city where Get Me launches in 2016.

In 2015, the climate for transportation network companies was far different, with both Uber and Lyft pulling out of the Alamo City and then returning to operate under a pilot program where drivers who undergo a fingerprint background check with the city become verified drivers, which is optional.

San Antonio Police Department Assistant Director Steve Baum says Get Me will also have to abide by the city's vehicle-for-hire ordinance, and will also have the option for the fingerprint background check to get verified by the city.

A Get Me spokesperson says the company will adhere to the ordinance and is encouraging and promoting its Go-Getters to complete the fingerprinting within the nine-month trial period.

The company initially launched in Dallas on August 20 last year, and is operating in Austin, Houston and Las Vegas. San Antonio will be its fifth city.

Get Me will launch at Rebecca Creek Distillery (26605 Bulverde Rd.) on January 14 at 5 p.m.
