Q&A with Winner of Free Spurs Ticket from Craigslist

Remember that weekend post on Craigslist, offering a free NBA Finals ticket to a HOT, FUN, SEXY” female? It had our craydar screaming on high alert. What kind of creep would post such an ad?! Any woman insane enough to answer it would surely meet a grizzly end with no Dexter to avenge her. Surely.

But, nope. It turns out this story has a surprisingly happy ending, and we know this because in the most random coincidence, Olivia Flores, a member of the Current's events team, read the Current's blog, answered the ad, was selected for her smashing example of "LeBronning" and lived to tell the tale.

1. What compelled you to throw caution to the wind and answer the ad?

I figured I'll just take my chances. I had also just watched a Jim Carrey speech; he said "People are to afraid to ask the universe for what they want." It resonated in my mind, and I took it as a sign. Guess I can thank Jim Carrey.

2. Did anyone try to stop you?

YES! My roommate came into my room while I was getting ready and gave me the "Is this really a good idea" talk, which the more I thought about it, the more it did not seem like good idea. But what was I supposed to do, not go because I was scared? I refused to tell my mom because I knew she would probably have a heart attack, and I just love her too much to let that happen... I knew she would find out eventually.

3. What precautions did you take to ensure your survival?

A lot! I practiced quite a bit of "stranger danger" as a kid. I had my roommate drop me off so she could see what he looked like, what car he had and the license plate. It was a bright red corvette, kinda hard to miss. I also left his name and number with her. I used me being on the events team to my advantage: I told him I was going to be posting lots of pictures (not entirely true). Thank goodness for social media!

4. Tell us about Jesse. Who is he and what was he like? Did he pay for all the beer?

Jesse was really cool! He was super down-to-earth and a die-hard Spurs fan. He lives in Corpus and comes up for the games. His friends and wife couldn't make it so he had the extra ticket. And yes, he paid for all the beer, margaritas, nachos and bought me a finals shirt!

5. Did you have a blast? What was the best part?

I had such a great time! It was my first Finals game and second ever Spurs game. The best part was, beer in hand, cheering on the Spurs around thousands of people. --also when we ate.

6. Were there awkward moments? Give us the details.

I live for awkward moments in life, but unfortunately no. We got along great. He never tried to get fresh, although he did offer to pay for a pair of $500 Spurs boots. That was awkward but more of a personal battle within myself.

7. What advice would you give to anyone who might consider answering a random personals ad?

Be completely clear on intentions! Literally the last paragraph in my email to him started, "One last thing, I'm not a whore sooo..."  Trust your intuition. Had I felt the least bit uncomfortable, I wouldn't have gone through with it. Not everyone on Craigslist is a murderer. But they could be, so take every precaution!
