Red Elvises

When: Thu., May 3, 8 p.m. 2018
Price: $15
If it’s true that music has the power to lead the way in fusing cultures in a way that everyone can get behind, the Red Elvises probably deserve a goddamn Nobel Peace Prize. The band, active and wild AF since 1995, is helmed by Igor Yuzov, a Russian who founded the band, along with Oleg Bernov, in Los Angeles. The group has since enjoyed what can best be described as a cult-following, fusing funk, rock, surf, rockabilly, reggae, folk rock, disco and traditional Russian styles of music for a sound that spans the globe (not to mention the last 50 years of popular music history). The band’s music is bawdy, as are its stage shows, irreverent and charged with a maniacal energy that’s as intense as the relationship between Putin and Trump — but a whole lot more silly (and probably less dangerous). In a live setting, the band is like some psychedelic carnival swallowed up by a tornado. Looking for a place to start with the Red Elvises? We’d recommend the band’s breakthrough album I Wanna See You Bellydance and/or its most recent effort, 2017’s She’s Works for KGB.
