Regional cooking tips and eating Thanksgiving out

It’s almost Thanksgiving, and you’re probably panicking about what to cook this holiday season. You want to make something delicious, but not predictable. If you need some inspiration, head to the Quarry Farmers & Ranchers Market on Sunday, November 20, to see chef Lou Lambert demo recipes from his new cookbook, Big Ranch, Big City, and let you in on his secrets for making a holiday meal with Texas influences. Lambert is known for his Southern cuisine, so if you’re looking to show out-of-town guests what Texas food is like, now’s your chance.

If you prefer to leave the cooking to the professionals, there are a couple dozen restaurants around town who will gladly serve you turkey and fixings. Biga on the Banks (203 S St. Mary’s) is offering turkey, prime rib, and lamb, while diners at Lüke (125 E Houston St) can eat roasted turkey with servicemembers, to be special guests of the restaurant. If you’re sick of all the fowl, Las Canarias (112 College St) will have an omelet station and breakfast foods. Other restaurants serving Thanksgiving menus include Auden’s Kitchen, Luce Ristorante, Q on the Riverwalk, Zocca, Earl Abel’s, and the Grand Ballroom at the Westin La Cantera. Most are serving buffets or Thanksgiving specials for a set price.
