Renowned San Antonio photographer Al Rendon is selling his 1892 studio and living space

Al Rendon, recognized as one of San Antonio's best fine-art and commercial photographers, has placed his longtime studio, gallery and residence on the market for nearly $2.6 million.

Built in 1892, the property is located convergence of South Alamo, South Presa and South Saint Mary's streets, putting it at practically the epicenter of the bustling Southtown neighborhood, according to a property listing.

Rendon has been operating his studio and gallery from the location for more than 20 years. His work has been in exhibited in galleries around the globe, and his images of the late Tejano superstar Selena have graced national magazine covers and appeared in the Smithsonian.

In addition to the studio space, the 4,400-square-foot, two-story structure includes three bedrooms and three baths. Two of the bedrooms are configured as master suites, each with its own kitchen.

The living area, which is spread out across the upper floor, features exposed limestone walls and windows offering breathtaking downtown views. Much of the woodwork is longleaf pine reclaimed from the restoration of the building.

Rendon isn't leaving the photography business. Instead, he and his wife are looking for a more conventional residential situation, he said. He stopped utilizing the downstairs gallery several years ago.

"The building is paid for, and we'd like to get some of our equity out and semi-retire," Rendon said. "It's got a great history. We hope whoever buys it can continue to preserve and restore it."
